Karbon specializes in industrial-scale carbon dioxide capture from exhaust gases, offering advanced solutions to decarbonize industrial plants and large internal combustion engines. Their innovative process allows existing equipment to continue operation with near-zero carbon emissions. The Karbon CO₂ capture system operates independently, diverting exhaust gas before it enters the stack. It leverages Siemens Energy gas turbines for cost-effective compression of host exhaust gas, with the turbines and their generators providing substantially all the heat and power required for the process, including CO₂ compression for transport.
The core of Karbon's technology is the Hot Potassium Carbonate (HPC) process, a widely used, inexpensive, non-toxic, and highly efficient method for CO₂ extraction, especially effective with compressed incoming exhaust gas. This process yields high-purity (99%) CO₂ suitable for sequestration, industrial use, and enhanced oil recovery. The system is deployed in independent modular trains, each comprising a gas turbine, HPC unit, heat exchanger, and power generator. Each train is capable of treating 300 MW of power plant exhaust gas, with multiple trains deployable side-by-side for increased capacity. Beyond CO₂, the Karbon process also effectively removes methane slip from exhaust gases.
Karbon also offers a compact version of its process for smaller industrial facilities and engines, such as those used for power generation or ship propulsion. The company is actively developing a proprietary multi-cargo LCO₂/LNG/LPG tank and protects its technology with a comprehensive suite of patents. Karbon collaborates with developers, utilities, and principal investors, licensing its intellectual property to industry partners for specific countries or projects, thereby facilitating broader adoption of its decarbonization solutions within the energy sector.
