Accessibility Statement
We want Bywatts to be usable by everyone, including people who rely on assistive technology. We target WCAG 2.2 Level AA across the site and treat accessibility failures as bugs.
Our commitment
Bywatts aims to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA. Accessibility is part of how the site is built, not an afterthought.
What we do
- Semantic structure — landmarks, headings in order, and a “skip to content” link on every page.
- Full keyboard support — every interactive control is reachable and operable by keyboard, including the ⌘/Ctrl + K command palette, which is fully arrow-key navigable.
- Visible focus — a clear focus ring appears instantly on every focusable element; it is never animated away from keyboard users.
- Reduced motion — we honor the
prefers-reduced-motionsetting and keep motion minimal by default. - Contrast and type — color tokens are chosen to meet AA contrast, data uses tabular figures, and body text scales with your browser settings.
- Responsive layout — the site works from small phones to large screens without horizontal scrolling, and touch targets meet minimum sizes.
Known limitations
The interactive map renders on a graphics canvas that is inherently visual and can be difficult to use with a screen reader or by keyboard alone. Where the map is the primary way to explore data, we provide the same information in fully accessible form through the directory, power-plant, and other list and table pages. We are continuing to improve the map experience.
Feedback
If you hit an accessibility barrier, please tell us at [email protected] and describe the page and the problem. We treat these reports as priority fixes.
