About Bywatts

Bywatts is a free, publicly accessible database and interactive map of US energy infrastructure: solar companies, installers, power plants, substations, transmission lines, and data centers. It exists to make public energy data searchable by anyone, without an account and without payment.

Who operates this site

Bywatts is operated by Bywatts LLC, a subsidiary of Sunhub. For the purposes of the EU and UK General Data Protection Regulation, Sunhub is the data controller for personal data processed through this site - see the Privacy Policy for what that means in practice.

Where the data comes from

Everything on Bywatts comes from a named source. Infrastructure records come from federal public-domain datasets - HIFLD, the US Energy Information Administration, and the FEMA National Risk Index - alongside PeeringDB for data centers and curated industry directories for companies and installers. We do not invent listings, reviews, or ratings, and we do not sell visitor data.

Our methodology page lists every dataset, links to its source, states how often it refreshes, and defines exactly what our Verified, Owner-provided, and Sponsored labels mean.

How we make money

The directory is free to browse and free to claim. Companies that have claimed and verified their own listing may buy a paid plan, which affects placement and lead priority only. Paid placement is always labeled as advertising and is kept visually distinct from the Verified badge, which is earned by proving domain ownership and cannot be bought. See pricing and the Terms of Service.

Corrections

If something here is wrong, tell us and we will fix it. Listing owners can claim a listing to correct it directly, and anyone else can reach us through support.
