The MSA-Trough Project is a pioneering initiative focused on the development and demonstration of an advanced parabolic trough collector system designed for Molten Salt Application (MSA-Trough). This project aims to revolutionize concentrated solar power (CSP) technology by introducing a system that significantly surpasses current commercial offerings in terms of efficiency, cost-effectiveness (both CAPEX and OPEX), reliability, and sustainability.

The core innovation lies in its optimization for generating cheap, dispatchable electrical energy. This capability is crucial for enhancing grid stability and facilitating a greater integration of variable output renewable energy sources into the existing power systems. The system is being developed to operate across a broad spectrum of scales, from the megawatt to the gigawatt range, making it suitable for diverse energy needs and large-scale power generation.

Funded under the prestigious Horizon Europe programme, specifically Cluster 5 focusing on Climate, Energy, and Mobility, the MSA-Trough Project is a testament to European commitment to sustainable energy solutions. It is implemented by the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA), highlighting its strategic importance in advancing clean energy technologies within the European Union and beyond. The project's ultimate goal is to enable a more robust and sustainable energy infrastructure by providing a reliable and efficient baseload power generation solution from concentrated solar energy.
