The OPHELIA research project is dedicated to pioneering the development of the linear photovoltaic sector. This innovative initiative focuses on deploying solar parks on distinctive land surfaces characterized by their extended length and narrow width, such as dikes, roadsides, and railway lines. The project's core aim is to integrate solar photovoltaic energy into territories efficiently, mitigating common land-use conflicts by leveraging pre-existing linear infrastructures.

Launched as a laureate of the ADEME's "DEMO TASE" call for projects in 2023, OPHELIA represents a collaborative effort among five key partners: CNR, Nexans, Schneider Electric, SNCF, and SuperGrid Institute. The research primarily delves into the electrical architecture of these linear photovoltaic installations and their seamless integration into various land types. This approach promises a significant technological breakthrough, accelerating the adoption of solar energy across diverse landscapes.

A key component of the project involves the deployment of a tangible demonstrator by 2028. This pilot installation, featuring solar canopies, will span nearly 900 meters along the "ViaRhôna" cycle path in the Vaucluse region, adjacent to the Rhône river. The OPHELIA project receives robust support from the French State through the France 2030 plan, managed by ADEME, and holds official certification from the Tenerrdis and I-Trans competitiveness clusters, underscoring its national strategic importance in advancing renewable energy solutions.
