About Biogas Danmark Biogas Danmark is a prominent Danish industry association that brings together the entire value chain of biogas. This comprehensive network encompasses stakeholders ranging from agriculture and technology providers to energy companies, consultants, investors, and consumers of biogas and green fertilizers. The association is dedicated to developing and expanding biogas as a central and indispensable component of Denmark's and Europe's green energy system, recognizing its multifaceted benefits beyond mere energy production.
The organization actively promotes biogas as a key solution for ensuring green energy security. Biogas provides reliable electricity and heat, crucial for balancing the energy grid when intermittent renewable sources like wind and solar are not producing. Its ability to be stored and deployed on demand makes it vital for a stable and resilient green energy system. Furthermore, biogas plays a pivotal role in the green transition by significantly reducing agriculture's carbon footprint and facilitating nutrient recirculation, which is essential for achieving both climate and water environmental targets.
Beyond its immediate energy and environmental benefits, biogas is a cornerstone for future green products and fuels. The biogenic CO2 derived from biogas is already being utilized in advanced applications such as Power-to-X and green chemistry, serving as a raw material for fuels, plastics, and e-methanol. Denmark stands as a pioneer in this international industry, demonstrating how organic waste products can be transformed into valuable resources, fostering energy production, economic growth, and export opportunities through circular economy principles that benefit climate, supply security, and food production.
With nearly 250 members, including 78 biogas producers, Biogas Danmark is committed to ambitious goals. The association works tirelessly towards achieving 100 percent green gas consumption in Denmark by 2030, striving to cultivate a robust biogas sector that extends its positive impact far beyond the nation's borders.
