Powering Humanity from a Mile Underground

Deep Fission is revolutionizing the nuclear power industry by pioneering a novel approach to energy generation. The company focuses on placing small modular reactors (SMRs) a mile underground, aiming to deliver low-carbon, reliable, and affordable electricity. This innovative methodology addresses core challenges of traditional nuclear power, such as cost, deployment speed, and scalability, by leveraging Earth's natural forces for enhanced safety and efficiency.

Their proprietary Gravity Reactors are designed to be inherently safer and dramatically more cost-efficient. By moving the reactor underground, Deep Fission anticipates eliminating up to 80% of surface construction costs, significantly slashing deployment timelines, and enabling installation in a considerably smaller footprint. This allows for flexible deployment in diverse locations, from industrial sites and data centers to remote grids and expanding commercial hubs.

The technology integrates three proven components: pressurized water reactors (PWR) fueled with standard low-enriched uranium (LEU), geothermal principles, and advanced deep borehole drilling techniques. Each Deep Fission SMR produces 15 MWe, with a modular design that scales up to 1.5 GWe, providing versatile onsite power solutions. This combination of established technologies is expected to facilitate a faster, safer path to regulatory approval, without compromising reliability or requiring a reinvention of core nuclear science.
