North East England's Offshore Wind Cluster Energi Coast serves as the dedicated offshore wind cluster for North East England, playing a pivotal role in propelling the region's robust and dynamic offshore wind sector. Leveraging the North East's strategic geographic location, extensive coastline, and exceptional land and port infrastructure, Energi Coast actively showcases the area as an ideal hub for offshore wind businesses. The region's rich heritage in manufacturing and its established status as a maritime and industrial powerhouse provide a solid foundation for continued growth and innovation within this critical industry.

Driving Regional Offshore Wind Development The cluster operates by closely collaborating with combined authorities to embed offshore wind as a priority in local industrial strategies. A core objective is to promote the region's capabilities, attract inward investment, foster innovation, encourage exports, and strengthen connections across the supply chain, academia, innovation hubs, ports, project developers, and regional government. This concerted effort aims to maximize local content in significant projects like Dogger Bank Wind Farms and Sofia Offshore Wind Farm, thereby creating new businesses and long-term career opportunities for the local community.

Strategic Initiatives and Workforce Development As one of eight key UK offshore wind clusters established following the 2019 UK Offshore Wind Sector Deal, Energi Coast is instrumental in developing regional strategies and action plans. It focuses on key themes such as Ideas, Places, People, Infrastructure, and the Business Environment to ensure a holistic approach to sector development. Functioning as a sub-committee of NOF, Energi Coast also champions initiatives that support skills development, such as forging partnerships between educational institutions like Newcastle College and RWE, providing traineeship programmes with companies like Van Oord, and facilitating GWO training for ex-forces personnel through AIS Survivex, thereby building a skilled and diverse workforce for the future.
