Project Overview

The FRISSBE (Fire-safe Sustainable Built Environment) project is an EU-funded initiative dedicated to advancing fire resilience within sustainable built environments. This crucial endeavor aims to significantly enhance the practices of Slovenia's National Building and Civil Engineering Institute (ZAG), particularly in response to the growing integration of new construction materials and technologies. The project’s core objective is to cultivate lasting, sustainable structural changes at ZAG, fostering research excellence in fire safety.

Implementation and Impact

Under the leadership of an ERA Chair holder, FRISSBE is designed to attract and retain top-tier human resources, thereby bolstering ZAG's capabilities. It operates through an autonomous unit, the FRISSBE ERA Chair, which serves as a testing ground for new practices. These practices encompass refining research enhancement processes, building capacity for securing competitive funding, and forging sustainable collaborations with industry partners. The project is expected to generate substantial regional impacts across the domains of research, education, and engineering.

Research Areas and Sustainability

A key added value of FRISSBE is its role in amplifying the existing capacities of ZAG's Fire laboratory, which is co-financed by ERDF funds. This ensures optimal conditions for conducting excellent research in fire-safe construction. The long-term sustainability of the ERA Chair is strategically planned through a robust funding model, combining national and EU research and innovation funds with contributions from industry-funded research and development, ensuring its continued impact.
