Gold Standard operates as a leading standard body dedicated to fostering a climate-secure world where sustainable growth delivers significant benefits to communities globally. Established in 2003 by WWF and other NGOs, the organization designs and implements robust processes to maximize the impact of climate and development interventions. Its core activities involve creating stringent standards that amplify efforts in delivering clean energy and water, promoting responsible land and forest management, and improving the lives of vulnerable populations worldwide.

The organization plays a crucial role in verifying the outcomes of these projects, thereby inspiring greater confidence among investors and driving further investment into impactful climate action. Gold Standard's framework ensures that projects not only reduce carbon emissions but also contribute to sustainable development, aligning with its dual mandate. It is ISEAL Code Compliant and supported by an extensive NGO network, overseeing over 4,385 projects across 114 countries.

Through its work, Gold Standard has facilitated the creation of billions of dollars in shared value and the reduction or removal of 445 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent. The organization is actively involved in critical discussions and initiatives, including carbon market regulations, net-zero strategies for businesses, clean cooking solutions, and the expansion of transition credits to phase out fossil fuels. It also collaborates with international bodies and governments, as evidenced by its partnerships in developing Article 6.2 Crediting Protocols and mutual recognition agreements, reinforcing its commitment to a just and sustainable future.
