Graphene@Manchester, an initiative of The University of Manchester, stands at the forefront of graphene research and commercialisation, building upon the groundbreaking isolation of this "world's thinnest material" by Professors Andre Geim and Kostya Novoselov in 2004, an achievement recognised with the Nobel Prize in Physics. This pioneering work laid the foundation for understanding graphene's remarkable physical properties and its potential to revolutionise numerous aspects of daily life.

The initiative serves as a global hub for academic and business engagement, fostering innovative work on graphene and other 2D materials. Through its dedicated facilities, including the National Graphene Institute (NGI) with its ultra-high-spec capabilities for nanoscale and characterisation projects, and the Graphene Engineering Innovation Centre (GEIC), Graphene@Manchester collaborates closely with industry to translate cutting-edge research into game-changing products.

Their expertise spans a wide array of applications, significantly impacting the energy industry through advancements in areas such as energy storage, composites and coatings for enhanced durability, and advanced membranes for efficient separation and filtration technologies. Beyond energy, their work extends to biomedical applications, sophisticated sensors, and next-generation electronics. The centre actively supports SMEs and larger enterprises in research projects, commercialisation efforts, and the development of industry standards and characterisation protocols for graphene materials.
