Helical Fusion is a pioneering Japanese startup, spun off in 2021 from the esteemed National Institute for Fusion Science (NIFS). Leveraging over 25 years of extensive plasma research and expertise accumulated at NIFS's Large Helical Device (LHD), Helical Fusion focuses on advancing key fusion reactor technologies and comprehensive reactor design engineering. Their core objective is the development of novel technologies, the seamless integration of these innovations, and ultimately, the realization of the world's first steady-state net power helical fusion plant. This ambitious endeavor promises a new era of clean, abundant energy.

The company is actively engaged in a diverse portfolio of 14 collaborative research projects. These initiatives span critical areas of fusion technology, including high-temperature superconducting magnets essential for magnetic confinement, advanced blanket designs (incorporating liquid metal, novel materials, and numerical simulations for energy extraction and tritium breeding), sophisticated heating systems like gyrotrons, and efficient power generation systems such as CO2 gas turbines. Furthermore, they are developing advanced fuel systems, including solid hydrogen pellet injection, and maintenance robotics to ensure operational efficiency and safety.
