INESC TEC is a prominent Associate Laboratory with over 35 years of experience in scientific research, technological development, and technology transfer. Operating from six sites across Porto, Braga, and Vila Real in Portugal, and with an international presence through INESC P&D BRASIL in São Paulo, the institute serves as a vital interface between academia, industry, services, and public administration in Information Technologies, Telecommunications, and Electronics (ITT&E). It integrates 13 R&D Centres with complementary expertise, fostering a robust cluster of over 700 integrated researchers, including approximately 350 PhDs.

The institute is deeply committed to innovation across diverse domains, structured into thematic areas known as TEC4. Notably, its TEC4ENERGY initiative focuses on advancing solutions within the power and energy systems sector, addressing real-world challenges in this critical industry. Research also spans areas such as Artificial Intelligence, Bioengineering, Communications, Computer Science and Engineering, Photonics, Robotics, and Systems Engineering and Management. INESC TEC actively invests in advanced training, consulting, and supports the establishment of new technology-based companies, ensuring that fundamental research outcomes are translated into socially relevant technological applications.

Through its multidisciplinary approach and strong international collaborations, INESC TEC plays a crucial role in modernizing national sectors and fostering the creation of new exporting companies in Portugal. Its extensive laboratory infrastructure further supports intensive research, from smart grids and electric vehicles to industrial robotics and advanced human sensing, demonstrating a comprehensive commitment to driving scientific and technological progress for societal benefit.
