The International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory (INL) is a leading intergovernmental research and technology organization, jointly founded by Spain and Portugal in 2009. Headquartered in Braga, northern Portugal, INL operates under an international legal framework to conduct cutting-edge interdisciplinary research in nanotechnology. Its primary objective is to develop and implement innovative nanotechnology-based solutions that benefit society and address pressing global challenges, aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

INL's strategic research areas encompass information and communication technologies, life sciences, and notably, energy and environment. Within the energy sector, INL's work in nanotechnology is crucial for advancing solutions in clean energy, including innovative approaches like integrating solar energy into facades, windows, and clothing. The laboratory provides a comprehensive suite of services, including advanced research core facilities for electron microscopy, X-rays, micro and nanofabrication, nanophotonics, bioimaging, and material testing, alongside general R&D services.

Through its dual focus on excellent scientific research and active engagement with society via technology transfer and public outreach, INL fosters innovation and identifies new research frontiers.
