The Massachusetts Clean Energy Center (MassCEC) is a quasi-public agency dedicated to accelerating the growth of the clean energy and climatetech industry within the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Its overarching objective is to establish Massachusetts as a global leader and hub for climatetech innovation, actively supporting hundreds of innovative companies, fostering the creation of thousands of high-quality jobs, and attracting billions of dollars in strategic investment. The organization plays a pivotal role in advancing the state's ambitious emission reduction goals by funding climate solution innovation and strategically expanding the clean energy economy.
MassCEC's strategic focus areas encompass High-Performance Buildings, the development of a Net-Zero Grid, Clean Transportation initiatives, and the robust expansion of Offshore Wind energy. The center is instrumental in supporting the development of large-scale projects, notably highlighting the U.S.'s first commercial-scale offshore wind project, Vineyard Wind I, and facilitating the deployment of substantial offshore wind capacity off the Massachusetts coast, with 3.6 GW currently under development and an additional 2 GW planned.
Beyond direct project facilitation, MassCEC provides a comprehensive suite of funding opportunities, including grants, strategic investments, and no-cost consulting services, tailored for innovative climatetech businesses. It also champions extensive workforce development programs, offering vital resources for students, job seekers, adult learners, and employers to build and advance fulfilling careers within the burgeoning clean energy sector. Through these multifaceted efforts, MassCEC has significantly bolstered the Commonwealth's clean energy industry, which now supports over 115,000 workers and has contributed more than $15.9 billion to Massachusetts’ Gross State Product since 2012.
