The Minnesota Department of Commerce is a governmental agency dedicated to protecting consumer interests and fostering a fair and competitive marketplace across more than 40 industries within Minnesota. A core focus of the Department is its comprehensive Energy division, which provides critical support and oversight for energy resources and utilities. This includes consumer assistance programs such as energy assistance, weatherization initiatives, and resources for improving home energy efficiency. It also manages significant clean energy initiatives, including rebates for electric vehicles and heat pumps, incentives for community solar gardens, and programs supporting solar energy deployment on public buildings and schools.

For industry and government stakeholders, the Department offers guidance and support for utility regulation, energy project financing, and technical assistance in areas like guaranteed energy savings programs. It actively promotes energy resilience and planning, facilitates distributed energy solutions, and maintains policy, data, and reports related to climate action and federal funding opportunities in the energy sector. Beyond energy, the Department's broad scope covers financial institutions, insurance, telecommunications, business regulation, licensing, and weights & measures, ensuring public protection in various facets of daily life, from purchasing a home to recovering from a disaster.
