The Plataforma Solar de Almería (PSA), an integral R&D division of the Centre for Energy, Environment and Technology (CIEMAT), stands as Europe's largest research, development, and test center dedicated to concentrating solar technologies. As a Singular Scientific and Technical Infrastructure (ICTS), PSA offers its specialized facilities and expertise to the national and international scientific and technological community, facilitating cutting-edge research and innovation in the solar energy sector. The center has a long-standing history of participation in European Commission-promoted programs for access to large scientific facilities, demonstrating its commitment to international collaboration and advancement in solar energy.

PSA's comprehensive research scope encompasses a wide array of fields, including linear and point focus solar thermal technologies, advanced materials for Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) systems, and crucial thermal energy storage solutions. Furthermore, the center investigates the solar production of fuels and raw materials, as well as diverse solar thermal applications, from industrial process heat to residential systems. A significant area of expertise lies in solar water treatment, encompassing desalination, decontamination, and disinfection, leveraging solar radiation for sustainable and environmentally friendly water solutions.

To support its extensive research and development activities, PSA boasts an impressive infrastructure comprising parabolic trough collectors (PTC), central receiver systems (CRS), solar furnaces (SF), and parabolic dishes, alongside various experimental thermal energy storage setups. These facilities are complemented by a suite of advanced laboratories such as GeoLab, RadLab, MaterLab, WATLAB, and TESLAB, which enable detailed evaluation of solar radiation, materials characterization, receiver testing, and comprehensive water quality analysis. This robust combination of state-of-the-art facilities, specialized laboratories, and deep expertise positions PSA as a pivotal hub for advancing solar energy technologies and their diverse applications, contributing significantly to the global energy transition.
