Platform Groen Gas is a collaborative initiative established in 2022, uniting key players in the Dutch green gas sector. This includes prominent entities such as Groen Gas Nederland, 2bcm Alliantie, Biogas Branche Organisatie, and the Vereniging Industriële Vergisters. The platform's overarching objective is to collectively accelerate the production of green gas, aiming to achieve an annual output of two billion cubic meters (2 BCM) by 2030, in direct alignment with the national Climate Agreement and broader energy transition goals.

The organization plays a pivotal role in advancing sustainable energy by significantly increasing the supply of renewable gas. This upgraded biogas, known as green gas, possesses the same quality as natural gas but is entirely circular, offering a sustainable alternative for various applications. Through its concerted efforts, Platform Groen Gas makes a substantial contribution to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, particularly methane and ammonia, thereby fostering a cleaner environment. The platform actively supports the enhancement of circularity within the energy sector by facilitating the processes necessary to upgrade biogas into grid-quality green gas.

Furthermore, Platform Groen Gas champions the sustainable processing and utilization of organic residual streams. By employing anaerobic digestion, it transforms these waste products into valuable green gas, effectively contributing to the closure of resource loops. This collaborative approach not only drives environmental benefits but also stimulates economic activity, generating employment opportunities across hundreds of companies and their personnel involved in the approximately 200 digestion plants and their extensive supply chains throughout the Netherlands. The platform provides essential knowledge, guidance, and advocates for supportive policies and subsidies, all aimed at achieving a greener and more sustainable Netherlands.
