The Renewable Energy Performance Platform (REPP) is a pivotal initiative established in 2015 with the explicit goal of catalyzing the expansion of the renewable energy sector across Sub-Saharan Africa. Operating under the management of Camco and supported by funding from the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), REPP addresses critical financial barriers faced by developers of small to medium-scale renewable energy projects. Its comprehensive approach aims to enhance the commercial viability of these projects, thereby accelerating sustainable energy development in the region.

REPP was founded in direct response to the United Nations' Sustainable Energy for All (SE4All) initiative, reflecting a commitment to global energy access and climate action. The platform provides a diverse array of financial products and services, leveraging deep local market knowledge to enable impactful change where it is most needed. This strategic support helps projects overcome funding challenges, facilitating their successful implementation and operation.

The platform's mandate includes ambitious targets such as avoiding 22 million tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions, providing first-time access to clean energy for 1.7 million people, and increasing Sub-Saharan Africa's electricity generating capacity by 138MW. Through its investments and support, REPP has already demonstrated significant achievements, including connecting over one million people to clean electricity and facilitating substantial equity raises for solar companies like Nuru in the DRC. REPP also actively contributes to thought leadership, publishing papers on critical topics such as financing mini-grids at scale, further solidifying its role as a key enabler in the region's energy transition.
