San Carlos BioPower (SCBP) operates a greenfield, standalone biomass-fired power station situated within the San Carlos Ecozone in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental, Philippines, a region characterized by its rich agricultural landscape. This facility plays a crucial role in providing baseload power to the local grid, addressing an area with increasing demand and short supply of electricity. With a generation capacity of 20 megawatts, SCBP is recognized among the largest biomass power stations in the Philippines, capable of supplying electricity to approximately 212,000 people.

The plant primarily utilizes agricultural residues as feedstock, including sugarcane trash harvested from surrounding fields and energy crops cultivated in dedicated plantations. These main sources are supplemented by other locally available agricultural biomass, with an annual feedstock utilization of 170,000 tonnes. The facility's operations are projected to significantly reduce CO2 emissions by over 16,000 metric tons annually, highlighting its commitment to environmental sustainability.

Beyond its energy generation, San Carlos BioPower contributes substantially to the local economy and community. It provides an additional source of income for the farming community through feedstock procurement and is expected to create 600 jobs directly at the plant and another 2,000 jobs in feedstock production and collection. The power plant, connected to an existing 69 kV substation, commenced operations in December 2016, marking a significant step towards sustainable energy development in the Philippines.
