The Faraday Institution is the UK’s independent institute for electrochemical energy storage, serving as a national hub for research, skills development, market analysis, and early-stage commercialisation. It mobilizes a vast network, bringing together over 500 researchers from 25 UK universities and engaging with 140+ UK and 30 international industry partners. The institution's core mission revolves around driving discovery in application-inspired research to address critical energy storage challenges.

Its projects are designed with commercial potential to significantly reduce battery cost, weight, and volume, while simultaneously improving performance, efficiency, and reliability. Furthermore, the institution focuses on developing scalable designs, enhancing manufacturing capabilities, and implementing comprehensive whole-life strategies, including advanced recycling and reuse solutions. The Faraday Institution's work spans various research areas, from materials development and pack design to sustainable manufacture, scale-up, recycling, and the advancement of next-generation technologies like solid-state, lithium-sulfur, and sodium-ion batteries.

Beyond scientific research, The Faraday Institution actively influences policy through insights and reports, supports a Battery Innovation Programme, and fosters career development through initiatives for early career researchers, PhD students, and undergraduates. It plays a pivotal role in convening the UK electrochemical energy storage community, driving impact across UK science, battery commercialisation, the economy, and the cultivation of future generations of researchers.
