The Green Village is an innovative field lab located on the TU Delft Campus, dedicated to fostering sustainable urban development. It offers a unique, regulation-exempt environment where knowledge institutions, educational bodies, entrepreneurs, government entities, and private citizens can actively research, experiment, validate, and demonstrate their sustainable innovations. This open-air laboratory specifically targets the built environment, enabling comprehensive testing and implementation at the neighborhood, street, and individual building levels, while benefiting from the extensive innovation ecosystem of TU Delft.

The field lab addresses critical challenges across three primary themes. Firstly, in "Sustainable Building and Renovation," it drives advancements in energy-efficient, circular, biobased, and nature-inclusive construction methods for both residential and office spaces. This includes exploring novel materials and processes to minimize environmental impact. Secondly, the "Future Energy System" theme focuses on developing smart and reliable energy innovations for local production, storage, and utilization of sustainable energy within communities and homes, which is crucial for enhancing grid resilience and decarbonization efforts. Lastly, the "Climate-Adaptive City" theme tackles the escalating effects of extreme weather, such as water excess, drought, and heat stress, through innovative solutions aimed at maintaining the liveability and habitability of urban areas.

Functioning as a vital accelerator, The Green Village bridges the gap between theoretical concepts and practical applications, facilitating the realization of tangible impact. It cultivates a vibrant "Learning Community" where diverse stakeholders converge to exchange knowledge, collaborate on projects, and draw inspiration from one another. This collaborative environment underpins the collective learning capacity essential for developing the innovative solutions required to navigate the complex challenges of a sustainable future.
