Virginia Energy: Advancing the Commonwealth's Energy and Mineral Future

Virginia Energy serves as the Commonwealth of Virginia's dedicated state agency responsible for advancing energy, mining, and mineral policies and initiatives. Established in 1985, the agency is committed to leading Virginia toward a safe, reliable, and responsible energy future. With a team of over 200 experts, Virginia Energy provides accurate information, insightful analysis, and quality service across a broad spectrum of energy and mineral resource management, impacting the nearly nine million people who call Virginia home.

The agency's operations encompass several critical divisions, including Geology & Mineral Resources, the State Energy Office, Coal Mine Safety & Mined Land Repurposing, Mineral Mining, and Gas & Oil. These divisions work collaboratively to reduce risks from geologic hazards, promote sustainable development through the wise use of mineral, land, water, and energy resources, expand Virginia's clean energy inventory, and ensure equitable access to renewable energy programs. Virginia Energy also ensures safe and environmentally responsible mining operations for both coal and non-fuel minerals, regulates gas and oil activities, and actively reclaims abandoned mine lands.

Furthermore, Virginia Energy is instrumental in fostering economic development by leveraging state resources and facilitating strategic partnerships. Initiatives like the Virginia Clean Energy Innovation Bank accelerate high-impact energy projects from concept to deployment, focusing on critical areas such as nuclear, fusion, solar, critical minerals, and advanced infrastructure. This bank serves as a catalyst for measurable economic growth, workforce development, and long-term energy reliability across the Commonwealth.

The agency also provides the Virginia Energy Connect platform, a one-stop resource connecting residents and businesses to energy incentives, financing, and technical assistance. By simplifying access to programs across efficiency, clean energy, and resilience, Virginia Energy turns opportunity into action, making it easier to engage with the Commonwealth's evolving energy landscape. The overarching goal is to ensure Virginia has abundant, reliable, affordable, and clean energy while diligently protecting its natural resources.
