Wasserstoffallianz Westfalen is a collaborative initiative established by the City of Hamm and the District of Unna, functioning as a GmbH under IMPULS. Die Hammer Wirtschaftsagentur and the District of Unna. Its core mission is to accelerate the market adoption of hydrogen technology, particularly green hydrogen, positioning it as a pivotal element for sustainable energy production and a decarbonized economy.

The alliance serves as a comprehensive platform designed to connect various stakeholders, including hydrogen producers, infrastructure service providers, equipment manufacturers, and potential consumers. It actively fosters innovation by driving projects in close cooperation with hydrogen-affine businesses and startups, with the strategic aim of transforming the Westphalia region into a frontrunner in climate-friendly energy solutions.

A significant undertaking by the alliance involves the planning and approval process for a 20-megawatt electrolyzer plant at the Hamm-Uentrop site. This project, a joint effort with Stadtwerke Hamm and Trianel through the Hamm Hydrogen Center initiative, is projected to produce up to 1,500 tons of green hydrogen annually. The region further supports this development with 42 hectares of dedicated space in the intermunicipal industrial area Westfalen for hydrogen-related enterprises, alongside its strategic connection to major North-South power lines for wind energy transmission.

Beyond industrial development, Wasserstoffallianz Westfalen is deeply committed to knowledge exchange, project development, and public awareness. It collaborates with regional universities and research institutions, such as the Institute for Sector Coupling at Hochschule Hamm-Lippstadt, to integrate the latest technological advancements. Significantly supported by federal and state governments through the 5-Standorte-Programm with 1.7 million Euros, the alliance also serves as an essential informational resource for citizens, promoting understanding of the extensive opportunities and potential inherent in this future-oriented technology.
