Coalfield Development is a leading 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to fostering economic transition and comprehensive community revitalization within central Appalachia. Headquartered in Wayne County, WV, the organization meticulously addresses the multifaceted challenges faced by rural communities by transforming disinvested places and cultivating new avenues for prosperity. Their holistic approach is firmly rooted in three core pillars: empowering people, revitalizing places, and generating lasting prosperity.

The organization is committed to empowering individuals through robust workforce development initiatives, exemplified by their Professional Accelerated Training and Hiring (PATH) program. This fast-track training, spanning 2 to 6 weeks, equips participants with crucial skills and industry-recognized certifications across high-demand sectors, notably including construction and advanced energy. Participants benefit from daily stipends, extensive hands-on experience, essential job-readiness skills, and access to vital support services, culminating in job fairs that strategically connect graduates with local, hiring employers.

Beyond individual empowerment, Coalfield Development actively engages in impactful community-led construction projects, such as rehabilitating dilapidated buildings and repurposing abandoned mine lands. Their innovative social enterprises, including Mountain Mindful and Revitalize Appalachia, alongside specialized programs like RePower Appalachia and ReCreate Appalachia (West Edge Factory), significantly contribute to regional economic growth.
