Inch Cape Offshore Wind Farm represents a pivotal renewable energy initiative currently under construction off the Angus Coast of Scotland. Poised to become one of Scotland's largest offshore wind farms, this project will incorporate 72 turbines with an installed capacity reaching almost 1.1 gigawatts. It is strategically designed to significantly contribute to both Scottish and wider UK offshore wind targets, capable of generating enough green electricity to power the equivalent of over half the homes in Scotland, an estimated 1.6 million households.
The wind farm's offshore component is situated 15 kilometers off the Angus coast in the North Sea. The electricity produced will be transported through an 85-kilometer export cable to a newly established substation in East Lothian, from where it will be seamlessly integrated into the national transmission system. Operational activities for the wind farm will be based out of a purpose-built facility located at Montrose Port. The ongoing construction phase involves complex logistics, including the delivery of massive XXL monopile foundations to the Port of Leith, a site that has benefited from substantial investment partly driven by the Inch Cape contract.
Inch Cape Offshore Wind Farm is owned by Inch Cape Offshore Limited, a 50/50 joint venture. This partnership brings together Red Rock Renewables Limited, an Edinburgh-based company specializing in renewable and sustainable energy, and ESB, a prominent energy company from Ireland, underscoring a collaborative commitment to advancing sustainable energy infrastructure across the UK. Beyond its energy generation goals, the project actively engages with local communities, providing grants through its Construction Fund and supporting various local initiatives.
