Advancing Agrivoltaics in India

The India Agrivoltaics Alliance (IAA), anchored by the National Solar Energy Federation of India (NSEFI), serves as a crucial multi-stakeholder platform dedicated to fostering the dual use of land for both solar energy generation and agriculture. This innovative approach, known as Agrivoltaics, provides a sustainable solution that significantly enhances farmer incomes, boosts overall land productivity, and effectively addresses rural energy demands across India.

Since its formal launch in 2023, IAA has rapidly expanded into a robust alliance comprising over 40 members, actively collaborating with key governmental ministries such as the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), the Ministry of Agriculture, and the Ministry of Rural Development. This collaborative effort aims to seamlessly integrate agrivoltaics into India's national policy framework, ensuring broad adoption and support.

IAA's strategic focus encompasses both comprehensive policy advocacy and tangible on-ground implementation, with significant activities concentrated in states like Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, and Telangana. The Alliance has developed and published a range of essential resources, including handbooks tailored for policymakers and farmers, detailed business model reports, and a white paper specifically addressing workforce participation in the agrivoltaics sector.

Looking ahead, the India Agrivoltaics Alliance is committed to establishing numerous pilot projects across multiple states. These projects are designed to rigorously validate diverse agrivoltaics business models, ultimately paving the way for mainstreaming this approach as a scalable and sustainable solution for India's rapidly evolving renewable energy and agricultural sectors. The Alliance powers synergies for sustainability by focusing on Renewables, Farmers, Agriculture, and Finance to advance clean energy, empower farmers, enhance agricultural productivity, and unlock financial pathways.
