The Institute for Solar Energy Research in Hamelin (ISFH) is a prominent applied research institution dedicated to advancing solar energy utilization. It develops innovative components for both photovoltaic and solar thermal applications, with a core focus on understanding the physical principles of these components and creating cost-effective manufacturing processes. ISFH operates through three distinct departments: Photovoltaics, Solar Energy Systems, and ISFH CalTeC.

The Photovoltaics department undertakes fundamental material research alongside the development of advanced processes and tools for manufacturing high-efficiency solar cells and modules. The Solar Energy Systems department concentrates on integrated energy solutions for decentralized units like buildings and settlements, ensuring a reliable supply of electricity and heat. Complementing these research efforts, ISFH CalTeC serves as an independent, DAkkS-accredited calibration and test center, offering precise calibration of silicon solar cells and evaluation of solar absorbers according to international standards (ISO, IEC, EN).

ISFH's comprehensive research portfolio includes cutting-edge work on silicon solar cells and PV modules, tandem solar cells and modules, and the reliability of photovoltaic systems, aiming for industrial scalability and reindustrialization of PV manufacturing in Europe. Furthermore, the institute explores building-integrated solar technologies, innovative energy systems for buildings, heat pump applications, and green hydrogen technology, advancing novel catalysts and materials for PEM electrolysis.

With a motto of "Innovation with impact" for over 30 years, ISFH collaborates extensively with industry partners, research institutions, and is associated with the Leibniz Universität Hannover, striving for a cost-effective and low-carbon energy future.
