NextEnergy is a leading innovation center dedicated to accelerating the commercialization and deployment of advanced energy and mobility solutions. Based in Detroit's innovation district, the organization leverages its unique facilities, including a microgrid, smart home, electric vehicle charging infrastructure, and alternative fuels platform, to demonstrate and pilot new technologies in real-world environments. This hands-on approach generates critical data and diverse user experiences, facilitating the rapid scaling of solutions.

The company focuses on two primary areas: Smart Mobility, encompassing connected, automated, shared, and electrified (CASE) mobility solutions and their interaction with infrastructure, and Smart Grid, which involves intelligent, energy-efficient solutions for buildings and homes and their integration with surrounding energy systems. NextEnergy manages significant initiatives such as the Hydrogen Heavy Duty Vehicle Industry Group, which develops and tests high-flow hydrogen fueling hardware, and the Detroit Smart Parking Lab, a platform for testing mobility technologies, logistics, and EV charging.

Furthermore, NextEnergy operates the Urban Tech Xchange, a lab addressing complex urban challenges through technology in areas like energy and buildings, and supports the Michigan Clean Cities program to advance cleaner mobility. Through these efforts and its role in the Michigan Mobility Funding Platform, NextEnergy collaborates with industry, government, and academic partners to transform innovative ideas into practical solutions that enhance quality of life and foster sustainable, equitable cities.
