Company Overview Nuru (Swahili for "light") is a pioneering energy company dedicated to enhancing connectivity and providing world-class renewable energy services within the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Established in August 2015 as Kivu Green Energy and rebranded to Nuru in September 2019 to reflect its broader geographical reach, the company stands at the forefront of utility solar-hybrid mini-grid development in the DRC. Nuru made history by deploying Congo's first commercial solar-based mini-grid in 2017.

Operations and Impact The company operates a robust network of solar-hybrid mini-grids, including a significant 1.3 MW site in Goma, which is recognized as the largest off-grid mini-grid in sub-Saharan Africa. Further expansion includes operational sites in Beni, Tadu, and Faradje, bringing its total installed capacity to 1.69 MW across four locations. To date, Nuru has successfully delivered over 4,500 MWh of energy with an impressive 99% uptime to approximately 3,000 clients, serving an estimated 22,000 direct end-users. This track record firmly establishes Nuru as the leader in solar-hybrid mini-grids within the DRC.

Vision and Commitment Nuru's overarching aim is to amplify human creativity and improve the quality of life in Congo by extending access to reliable, world-class power and connectivity. The company is committed to scaling its operations to provide 10 million Congolese people with sustainable energy solutions by December 2030, significantly contributing to the region's socio-economic development and bridging critical energy access gaps.
