OneD Battery Sciences is a pioneering company in advanced battery materials, specializing in silicon anode technology for electric vehicles (EVs). The company's flagship SINANODE® platform integrates silicon nanowires into EV-grade graphite, significantly enhancing battery performance while simultaneously reducing manufacturing costs. This patented technology, supported by over 240 granted patents, addresses critical challenges in EV battery development by improving energy density, enabling faster charging, and optimizing resource utilization.

The SINANODE® Technology

The SINANODE® process begins with existing EV-grade graphite supplies, which are then 'supercharged' through the infusion of silicon nanowires using silane. This innovative method allows silicon, which stores ten times the energy of graphite, to be fully leveraged by filling the surface and internal pores of the graphite. This strategic integration effectively mitigates common issues associated with silicon expansion and stability, unlocking its full potential for lithium-ion batteries.

Impact on EV Batteries

The resulting silicon-graphite anode material boasts a reversible capacity of 3,250mAh/g and offers a lower cost per kWh compared to graphite alone. The SINANODE® technology is versatile, supporting both wet and dry electrode coating processes, which further contributes to cost reductions. Ultimately, this leads to battery cells with greater energy density, reduced reliance on natural resources, faster charging capabilities, and lower production costs. The technology is compatible with various cell formats, including cylindrical, pouch, and prismatic, and enables the production of smaller, lighter, and more cost-effective battery packs with advanced safety features, such as reference electrodes for improved BMS thermal management and lifecycle. This differentiation allows EV manufacturers to meet consumer demands for affordable performance, extended range, and rapid charging, as evidenced by an LCA report finding a 35% reduction in EV battery pack carbon footprint.
