OpenStar Technologies Limited is a pioneering private company dedicated to advancing fusion energy generation through the development of the levitated dipole reactor (LDR) concept. Leveraging breakthroughs in High-Temperature Superconductors (HTS) and proprietary intellectual property, OpenStar aims to deliver grid-scale fusion power, significantly contributing to the global clean energy transition.

The company's work builds upon the foundation laid by the MIT Levitated Dipole Experiment (LDX) in 2004. OpenStar was founded to evolve this concept using modern HTS technology, successfully confining plasma in its first Marsden Class device on October 31st, 2024. This achievement marks a critical step towards demonstrating the scalability of LDRs for fusion energy production.

Looking forward, OpenStar is progressing through distinct phases of reactor development. The Rutherford class devices are designed to conduct fusion reactions, probing remaining physical unknowns, while further Marsden class devices will expand understanding of dipole physics. The ultimate goal is the Hasegawa Class devices, which are projected to be power-positive, providing useful energy to the grid, eliminating the reliance on fossil fuels, and ushering in a new era of energy abundance and reliability.
