Metafuels is an innovative company dedicated to powering the future of aviation with affordable, net-zero sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) solutions. Through its breakthrough, patent-pending aerobrew™ technology, Metafuels aims to make sustainable air travel and global goods transportation viable by significantly reducing the carbon footprint of the aviation industry. This proprietary technology, developed in collaboration with the world-renowned Paul Scherrer Institut, efficiently converts green methanol into e-SAF, addressing the critical need for large-scale, cost-effective decarbonization in the energy sector.
The aerobrew™ process leverages renewable feedstocks to achieve high carbon conversion, selectivity, and overall SAF yield. It begins with the capture of CO2, either through direct air capture or biogenic methods, combined with green hydrogen generated from water electrolysis powered by renewable electricity. These components are then processed into green methanol, which subsequently undergoes the unique aerobrew™ conversion to produce Sustainable Aviation Fuel. This innovative approach overcomes the typical scale-up challenges and high costs associated with alternative e-fuel technologies, such as those primarily based on Fischer-Tropsch.
Furthermore, aerobrew™ is compatible with a biogenic route, where green methanol is derived from sustainable cellulosic biomass like wood or miscanthus, ensuring no competition with the food chain. With its attractive production economics and potential for cost leadership, Metafuels is poised to meet the rapidly growing global demand for SAF, projected to reach $6.26 billion by 2030. The company's technology is expected to achieve up to a 95% lifecycle carbon reduction compared to traditional jet fuel, playing a pivotal role in supporting the aviation industry's ambitious net-zero 2050 targets.
