OnePower is an energy startup and social business primarily focused on increasing energy access across Africa, founded in Lesotho. Its core offering involves the development and operation of fully-automated decentralized solar-hybrid energy systems, commonly known as minigrids.

Leveraging solar PV and advanced battery technology, OnePower minimizes the carbon footprint of its energy solutions, with optimized designs that integrate backup generators to guarantee power supply even when solar availability is low. The operational efficiency is further enhanced by fully automated plant management and metering systems, which reduce costs and predict maintenance needs, ensuring uninterrupted service.

Customers benefit from a convenient mobile Pay-As-You-Go (PAYG) payment system, allowing them to purchase electricity as needed, 24/7, directly from their cell phones without requiring a physical storefront visit. Initially incubated by STG International, an MIT-spun-off non-profit with extensive global experience in energy access, OnePower has expanded its reach, with current operations in Lesotho and planned expansion into new markets like Benin and Zambia.
